Aerial view of Dursey from the west. In the lower right of the island, atop the cliffs, are remains of the old temporary lighthouse. It was built there when the Calf Rock lighthouse was destroyed in a storm in the early 1880s, and functioned until the Bull Rock lighthouse began operating

| Sheep and animals, such as cows, travel frequently on the cable car. |
The cable car is the only one in Ireland. The journey takes about ten minutes crossing the infamous Dursey Sound where strong tides make travelling by boat hazardous |
The view from the mainland. The cable car is on the right hand side of the picture about half-way down. You can drive all the way to it and park up for your trip across |
| Approaching the first village. The road meanders pleasantly through the island, with very few cars it makes for a lovely walk. |

The Signal Tower stands on the furthest west hill and has commanding views north to the Skelligs, south to the Mizen. It was built 200 years ago as a line of defence against the French. A signalling tower to relay from one tower to the next a warning of invasion. In line of sight there was one from Malin in Northern Donegal, down the west coast and up around to Dublin |
| The Calf Rock has the remains of an old lighthouse which was destroyed in a storm in 1881. Visible as you walk towards the end of the island |
