Aerial view of Dursey from the west. In the lower right of the island, atop the cliffs, are remains of the old temporary lighthouse. It was built there when the Calf Rock lighthouse was destroyed in a storm in the early 1880s, and functioned until the Bull Rock lighthouse began operating

Cable Car The cable car is the only one in Ireland. The journey takes about ten minutes crossing the infamous Dursey Sound where strong tides make travelling by boat hazardous

The Signal Tower The Signal Tower stands on the furthest west hill and has commanding views north to the Skelligs, south to the Mizen. It was built 200 years ago as a line of defence against the French. A signalling tower to relay from one tower to the next a warning of invasion. In line of sight there was one from Malin in Northern Donegal, down the west coast and up around to Dublin

The Dursey Cable Car Timetable

Monday to Saturday:
9.00am to 11.00am
2.30pm to 5.00pm
7.00pm to 8.00pm

Sunday
9.00am to 10.30am
1.00pm to 2.30pm
7.00pm to 8.00pm

7pm to 8pm are generally for people returning or staying on the island overnight. During June, July and August the car will also operate between 4pm and 5pm on Sundays
